Community Garden Update

We are coming to the end of our summer garden. We have harvested some nice cantaloupes, honeydews, and a few watermelons. The okra is doing very well but we didn't plant very many so the quantity is limited. We have more cucumbers and squash than we can use. The pumpkins are getting very large and continue to do well. The pomegranates are plentiful this year and we've picked a few to try -- they need another week or two to be in peak ripeness. The carrots are also ready to harvest and are delicious! This winter we will be expanding the garden and putting in irrigation systems. Watering has been a big consumer of our time, so next year we will be able to focus more on improvements and other garden maintenance.

Other News

We have a new arrival: Christopher is a wwoofer (http://wwoof.org) and will be helping us with his energy and enthusiasm. He is truly a gift to us and has many skills and talents which will help take the Sanctuary project to the next level. We are filled with gratitude. As you can see, he has been busy burying our water main, a task we have been working on for a couple of years and it looks like he will be done in another week or two, with a little help from Edwin.

  • On the agenda
    • Finishing the water pipe burial
    • Continuing to shore up the swales
    • Finish the tar coating on the dome
    • General garden maintenance
    • Enjoying the harvest!
