Michael's on Board and some Intentions.
I am nurturing strong intentions for significant progress this year. I am receiving some strong positive intentions from both Michael Grainge and Florbella Monteiro. Michael has committed to join the community in March or April.
Our goals for this year, subject to revision and refinement as people join and participate in the process:
- Fix up/clean up the vacant campers, and build a rock-and-mortar base for them so they have more thermal mass, will not be blown by the wind, and will not have wind-chill underneath them.
- Create a 3-D model of the community housing we want to build.
- Grade about two acres of the land, in terraces of about 75 feet, at the keyline, which currently has gently sloping terrain, grade existing driveways, and smooth the road in a few needed spots. Extra soil will be piled in convenient places for use as adobe material. Additionally, I would like the grader to create two more swales to catch water runoff -- one above and one below the housing area. These swales will help us achieve the goal of "no water leaves the land", ensuring the sustainability of the well even with the higher usage needed for fruit trees and gardens.
- Build at least one small adobe dome for Michael to live in temporarily until we can build "full-sized" eco-domes, using the Cal-Earth process, to learn the process and see how it works out..
- Improve the water tank situation. Either purchase a 1000-gallon tank or connect the plastic barrels we have and perhaps purchase a few more to form a tank of about 500 gallons.
- Bury the pipe before the winter freeze next winter. Rent a trenching tool to speed up the process
- Purchase a large (size to be determined) greenhouse for winter gardening. Also put in some new open-air gardens in the newly graded area and around the new housing.
Another announcement: I have taken over once again the Office of the Overseer, so I have control of the land through the Corporation Sole. My intention is to create a new non-profit entity this year, probably a Foundation, which can receive donations and will have a board of directors. A friend who has worked with non-profits is going to lend me a book which explores different options for non-profit entities.
